Was the JIRA unavailability earlier today related to this?
-> No It wasn't, JIRA was just 'overloaded' during 30minutes then
everything came back normally.

Regarding confluence upgrade, I was a little bit confused as confluence
image wasn't built yet. 
The PR is still pending for beeing merged.
I prefer to do everything during the same timeslot as there are two
steps that take times and imply downtime.
  * Converting database to UTF8.
  * Upgrading database schema from confluence 5.0 to 5.9

Therefore I didn't touch anything and we'll have to plan another
maintenance window.
